My husband and I were married on Australia

Day 2007 in a beautiful garden ceremony at

Munja Gardens Function Centre. Instead of a

traditional sit-down reception we decided on

a reception party at our house. We wanted

something low-key with a personal touch, and it

really was perfect. Paul and I, along with all our

guests, had the most fantastic day that we will

remember forever. Though, I have to say it went

about as far from running smoothly as you could

get! The heat was an unbearable 44 degrees.

My bridesmaids and I were dropping like flies

(thanks to dodgy take-out the night before).

And the photographer’s car overheated on the

way to having our post-wedding shots (he has

since bought a much more reliable vehicle!).

But, despite this unfortunate series of events we

wouldn’t change one single thing. We were

able to share our special day with our closest

family and friends and everything that didn’t go

quite as planned only added to the experience!

Paul and I met at a mutual friend’s party six

years ago and have been in love ever since. In

those six years we have built our own home and

have two beautiful sons aged 2 and 5. So we

thought it was about time we made it all official.

Although planning a wedding was a lot harder

than I expected, it was made easier by

choosing the right people to be involved.

I would recommend brides-to-be get

advice, not only from married couples, but

also ask friends and family what made the

weddings they’ve attended memorable.

What was the priest or celebrant like? The

flowers? The food? etc. etc. All the people

involved on our wedding day came highly

recommended. Our celebrant, Kate Joyce,

was brilliant, she helped us plan a ceremony

that suited us and included our two children.

Our DJ, The Wizard, not only helped us with

song choices but also with speeches and the

order of events at the reception. And Nick

Cunningham the chef at Munja designed

and catered a menu that suited our needs

and budget perfectly. I would especially

recommend investing in a great photographer.

Your photographs are your lasting

reminders of your special day so you want

them to be exceptional. Overall our day was

one we’ll remember always.
