From the moment we started planning our

wedding I knew I wanted every aspect to be

unique. We found that the best way for it to

refl ect us was to do as much as we could ourselves

and make sure we had adequate input

in the rest. Because we wanted everything

to have a unique touch I hand-made the invitations,

decorated the gift boxes and made

all the table settings in accordance with the

theme. By doing this we managed to give

everything a personal touch and cut down on

some unnecessary expenses.

Because my husband is Italian we knew the

wedding would be quite large, but what we

didn’t expect were the diffi culties we encountered

trying to fi nd a suitable venue to cater

for such numbers. We had decided to have

the ceremony and reception at one venue

to make the logistics simple and maximise the

experience for everyone. We instantly fell in

love with Clairault Winery in Margaret River for

its beautiful vineyard setting and casual but

elegant vibe. We organised for our guests to

stay at one hotel and bussed them into Clairault

where we had the ceremony, photos, predinner

drinks and cocktail style reception. The

ambience on the day was absolutely perfect

and Cyrus was able to capture every moment

in his amazing pictures.

My dress was not the traditional white but

rather a stunning mix of latte coloured satin

and beaded bronze lace. With the expertise

of Leanne at Catwalk Bridal, we were able to

design a dress that was elegant and unique

with amazing detail and a modern vintage

twist. The dress was complemented by silk fl owers

beaded with pearls and the bridesmaids’

parasols gave the theme a slight oriental feel.

I also used the leftover beads from my dress to

bead some fl at shoes to wear during the reception

so I could dance all night without being

uncomfortable. Although not traditional, the

remarks I received about my dress were that it

truly refl ected my own personality and style and

I would recommend anyone to choose their

dress based solely on how it makes them feel.

What made the day so special was

seeing everyone having a fantastic

time and all of our hard planning come together.

The highlights included our masterpiece

of a cake that had everyone talking,

the live band that added to the fantastic

atmosphere and of course being able to

refl ect on every moment once we received

our truly stunning photos. Our guests also

loved the idea of photos from the day being

played throughout the reception on a

projector. Above all, we love showing

people the incredible book from Lighthouse

Photography that showcases our wedding

day memories.

My advice to all couples is to choose things

because you love them and splurge only on

the elements that you will remember. Most

of all keep in mind that this is your wedding

day, so do it your way.
